My name is Alexandra and I am a 22 college student in Baltimore. I love running and healthy living blogs and they have inspired me to start my own. **Fingers crossed** graduating from college this fall and applying to graduate school to get my masters in social work. College is supposed to be “the time of your life” and although I’ve had a crazy amount of fun, it has also been one of the hardest times in my life.
Summer before my junior year I developed anorexia and my world unraveled rapidly. I tried to deny what was going on for the longest time, but come the winter there was no avoiding the fact that I had a serious problem and needed external help. I went to day treatment for a couple weeks, but then I had to leave for my semester abroad and from there things only got worse. I was sent home from my study abroad semester after only 2.5 months out of fear for my health. That was one of the most difficult times in my entire life, and I plan on discussing it further in a series of posts. I went back into treatment for the entire spring and summer, until yet again it was time for me to leave for school and that time I lasted all of two weeks. It was then I finally bit the bullet and went into inpatient treatment, something I had vowed never to do before, but in the end it was the best decision of my life. Since then I have been seeing a team outpatient and have been able to maintain a stable weight for some time now.
My biggest struggles now are managing my anxiety and depression, conflicts with my mother and sister, and balancing my diet with my half marathon training. I am no where near 100% recovered, but I am definitely trying to be a little bit better everyday 🙂
